About Me

I had my first foray into the Blogging World in May 2017 when  I created this Blog as an outlet for sharing my love of Family History with Family and Friends and the wider community.

I have been researching my Family History for about six years. I would describe myself as an avid but always "learning researcher".

In June 2015 I undertook an Online Diploma of Family History Course with the University of Tasmania.

I graduated with my Diploma of Family History in December 2017 and can now add the letters DipFamHist after my name!

I absolutely loved the learning journey and met many online friends throughout Australia and overseas.

While this journey certainly challenged me, it broadened my knowledge in many areas, history and technology to name a couple!

The Units of study for my Diploma were:

Introduction to Family History

Convict Ancestors

Place, Image and Object

Convicts and their Legacy

Oral History

Writing Family History

Families at War

Writing the Family Saga

I will post here at different times, stories that I have written, either for my Uni assignments or from Writing Challenges that I undertake along the way.

I endeavour in my writings to put "flesh on the bones" of some of my ancestors. Some of these stories are Creative Non-fiction. This means that research has been done, and names, dates, places etc are correct, as far as I am aware.

I have just padded these stories out with just that ...... story. So in a lot of cases minor characters, may also be named from actual documents, but my imagination comes into play with scenes and descriptions.

Other postings will be about different Ancestors in essay form, which will be pure research essays.

Blog posts can be viewed by clicking on a story from the sidebar at the right.

To view a continuing story in order, you may have to scroll to the first chapter, and go from there.

Any Challenges that I do either Monthly, Weekly or Daily will appear in reverse order, that is as they are posted, with the most recent at the top.

So hopefully, you enjoy the read as much as I enjoy writing and sharing.

Cheers

  1. Hi Marcia
I enjoyed reading your blog posts and seeing the lovely photo of your parents. We share common ancestors, Patrick GALVIN and Mary HUTCHISON. There is a little information on my website at http://www.rosemaryinaustralia.com/genealogy.html
but lots more offline and I'm very happy to share my research if you'd like to get in touch. Best wishes, Rosemary
